MMC Snap In Problems

When I add the Group Policy snap-in to MMC, it sits there for a couple of
minutes and then MMC just disappears (crashes). I get an Application Error
with an Event ID 1000 in the application log with the following description:
"Faulting application mmc.exe, version 5.2.3790.0, faulting module ntdll.dll,
version 5.2.3790.0, fault address 0x00007931."

I'm also showing a Userenv Error with an Event ID 1030 with the following
description: "Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects.
Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy
engine that describes the reason for this."

This is a fresh Windows 2003 Server configuration with all applicable
patches in place except SP1. Just a couple of third party apps running.

You should be seeing other Event Log entries, like 1058 or 1097's I
think.... Your event log should shed more light on the issue. You should
also enable Userenv debug logging:

That should help point to the cause of the problem, if it's not clear, post
more data here from the Event Logs and the Userenv log.
