MMC 8.8 - convert to MPEG4

When I try to convert clips recorded (one touch to timer recordings in MPEG2
(DVD quality) to MPEG4 (by right-clicking the clip in the Library), I get
the dialog boxes to name the converted clip, but nothing really happens.
Even a 30 second clip would stay stuck on a dialog box with "cancel" button.

Anyone else seeing this?

Found the answer: only VCR format files can be converted to MPEG-4.
