Hey folks,

Any idea how this works? I have a AIW9000 in one machine and an
AIW7000VE PCI in another machine. The former is installed as server and the
latter as client, both of which are behind a wired router. Now what? Should
I be able to control the server from the client somehow?

Thanks for any tips,

Dave

Sorry I don't have an answer but I do have a question :-)

How did you install the server?
I have also installed MMC 8.8 with Eazyshare on my puter with an AIW 7500.
But when I run eazyshare it complains that no server is configured. Should
the install program have recognized the AIW and loaded the server or did I
miss something?

Thanks all

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mmc88_Release_Notes.html seems quite
comprehensive.

It looks like Eazyshare (spelt "their" way) enables users to watch and
control tv on a machine which doesn't have its own tuner module/TV card but
connects to a "server" machine so equipped through the network - a great
idea.

During installation (or was it configuration ?) it asked whether I
need server or client configuration, on my 8500AIW.

On the 9800NP, it just sets the client configuration by default.

Still can't have it fully funtional though.

For EazyShare server:
Go to configuration screen and you should be able to see the client
name. You have to select a checkmark, so the client can receive the
streaming. You may also need to select TCP or UDP protocols. ATI
recommends, UDP for wired LAN, and TCP for mixed WiFi/Wired LAN

For EazyShare client:
In the configuration, scan for active servers and select the one you
want. Start the app and it should bring the TV screen. The client
can request server for control and then you can change channels on
client as well.

It doesn't appear to work with the AIW 7500. Mine doesn't, and many
are complaining of the same thing in Rage 3D.

Hello, my Hercules AIW 7500 wouldn't setup as a server either. I
thought the info may be stored somewhere so I had a look in the
registry and found the word client in the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI
Technologies\Multimedia\Features\Homestead

I changed Client to 0 and created a new entry called Server. Close
regedit and open the MMC configuration tab and hopefully you should
have the server options. I haven't actually tried it to see if it
EAZYSHARE works though as I don't have two Radeon cards (yet). Hope
this helps.

I did that last week, doesn't work.

How do you get the software on the client, or I should say how would I
install the Eazyshare client software on the client that has no media center
and cant use it for that matter? Can you install a file player alone, or TV
to recieve the server files from the server which is fully equipt?

Crap, thanks, the card on the client is a Rage 3D pro, guess I'll have to
try this another time.

I have a 8500dv AIW card and a ATI 9000 Radeon on my laptop. I don't see my
laptop as a client. Don't I have to install some client software for my
laptop??

Thanks!

Seems eazyshare is only installed from the media center 8.8, as you install
it should give you the option to set up as server or client. As long as
there isn't something on your network blocking it you should be able to see
it.

Prince Lee

OK so now I go to config and can see my server. I have also installed
EAZYSHARE and the "TV" on my client. I run TV after my config sees the
server and nothing shows up!?

Am I doing this right?

My understanding was that the client would be using the file player to view
files you saved from your server's TV for instance. Perhaps it work the same
way if your server's TV is just running, you could try that.

The client should have a Radeon based video card for it to function.

All you need is Windows Media Encoder and VNC to get the same
functionality ... AND, you don't even need a made-by-ATI card on the
client.

Two questions:
1) (re the ATI implementation) Is there a set of comprehensive
documentation for this function? Something beyond the skimpy .chm
file? Something that spells out hardware requirements on the client,
for instance?

2) (re the Windows Media implementation) What is VNC? How do I know
if I have it? Where can I get it? Are you saying that this will
enable my wife to play back soap operas on her laptop that were
recorded through the ATIMMC on my desktop? (Oh, I can just see my WAF
[Wife Approval Factor] going through the roof!)

VNC-(Virtual Network Computing) kinda like remote viewing, virtual pc,
virtual desktop, or PC Anyware.

While there would be similarities in simply having your PC's on a private
network, allowing you to simply share a file, Eazylook instantly shares
files you record on your PC, to another PC having the same software.

The simplification of this implement is what separates Eazylook from having
you place files into a shared folder in order to allow others to view it,
simply put, it's a more refined method of sharing multimedia as an "All in
one" solution without having to do more than you want, or having to expose
more than you want.

As far as documentation, there is nothing that I've seen that well defines
the use of Eazylook;something ATI seriously need to remedy.

Download Windows Media Encoder from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

....And VNC from here:
http://www.realvnc.com/download.html

You only need VNC if you want to change channels remotely.

I guess! I have only tried to stream live TV though. But I know for a
fact that WME will let you stream video files (.mpg, .avi, etc.) over
the network. You can find help on WME in newsgroups or in the MS
website. Basically, the way it works is: it reads from a device or
file, and streams it to a specified network port. On the client
computer, you can run windows media player - File -> Open URL, enter
ip of the pc running WME :port#

Good luck!!!

I tryed the Registry thing on my 8500DV because I was not given the
option to be a server or client either, and I only had client
controls. I think this has something to do with Windows 98. I still
can not get the thing to work. EazyShare is a joke as far as I am
concerned.
