Currently running 7.6 multimedia center.

I realize that I need to buy a disc from ATI (8.1) so I can upgrade to 8.6.

I have primarily been using the card to input analog video of home movies
etc....

I'm just starting to get into the PVR stuff and starting to record TV shows.
I currently have 3 Replay Tvs.

Should I purchase the upgrade so I can get to MMC 8.6 or is there better
software out there for the PVR option.

If anyone has any 1st hand experience or knows some web links or forums your
help would be appreciated.

Absolutely! 8.6 is the first 8.x incarnation that can actually capture in
AVI format without problem.

Downloading it extended the life span of my 8500DV in my computer. I was all
ready to throw it out for something less proprietary when they released
this.

Now, if only they could fix the sync probem that still exists when you
capture in AVI and PicVideo MJPEG, the crashing when you mute with
closed-captions and the issue with the Program Guide not supplying MMC with
the name of programs after they've begun. I've had fits trying to find a
program that I've started recording after the show has started. The program
always calls it "Noname."

You only need to buy that disc if you want to use the ATI DVD-player. If you
don't you can just download the 8.6 MMC from their website.
