MM2 wont install

I have problems installing 2.0:
Symptoms - every time I attempt to install the 2.0 update
most of the dll's update to 2.0.3321.0 but the dll's:
wmmres.dll, wmmutil.dll, wmmfilt.dll and the moviemk.exe
remain at 1.1.2427.1.
Any ideas??

Have done so and attempted the suggestions, they were
good, but none seemed to work. I suspect that I might not
have some of the files required in my
C:\WINDOWS\registeredpackages folder, it only contains
two files and none are overwritten when I copy them.

I would recommend installing Movie Maker 2 again from the Windows Update
website. During a successful installation, (regardless of whether or not
you end up with MM1.x or MM2.x) you should have those 4 files in the
"%Systemroot%\registered packages" folder.

Great I just copied the wmmaker.exe into the movie maker
directory only I had to rename the wmmaker.exe to
wmmaker2.exe because somehow the old wmmaker.exe (ver 1)
kept being regenerated!? weird... But now it works, the
new wmmaker.exe (ver.2) was renamed into wmmaker.exe.tmp
this is the file I renamed... Still very strage behavior.

Sorry about the last post, the file in question is of
cause:

moviemk.exe (copied from the "%Systemroot%\registered
packages") which after one run was renamed into an old
file: moviemk.exe, and the new version 2 is renamed to
moviemk.exe.tmp this file was renamed into moviemk2.exe.
