It has been a pain and waste of time as MM2 shuts down with comctl32.dll
error. I am using WindowsXP and am on auto update. Could someone suggest a
step by step fix. Have urgent home movies to complete.

try moving the collection database to the sidelines, and see if Movie Maker
runs OK with the new database it'll automatically create.... if so, it would
indicate a database corruption. If it doesn't resolve it, you can copy it
back into place.

for the location and name of the collection database, see my website's
Manage Your Files > Collections page. Scroll down the section about 'Backing
Up'.

You don't need the collection database to continue working on your project.

If this is a recent occurrence...it may be worth
a try to do a system restore to a time before the
errors began.

System to a Previous State in Windows XP

If the restore won't complete...try doing it in
Safe Mode.

Also it may be worth a try to download and
reinstall WinXP SP2:

Download Windows XP SP2

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.

Good luck.
