MM2 Not Detecting DV Camera?

Hello, I just put my Sony Handycam using iLink and firewire to my computer,
Iam running XP Pro and using MM2. It doesn's seem to discover the camera but
it does seem to discover my Intel QX3 Microscope. I don't understand this at
all. Even when I unplug the microscope it still does not recognize that the
DV camera is plugged in. The Firewire ports are discoverable in the Device
Manager and I have used the camera on other computers. This doesn't make me
feel any more confident in Microsoft seeing how I can just plug any camera
into my mac and turn on iMovie and start editing with no problems at all!
Well, please help me figure this out!

Thanks in advance!

One question. You said even when you unplug the microscope it doesn't
recognize the camera.
That makes it sound as though you have two firewire cables, so did you try
using the other cable on your camera?

The Microscope is USB sorry for not posting that. The only thing plugged into
the firewire PCI card is the DV camera. The only reason I even menchioned the
microscope is because the computer seems to recognize it as a camera. Thanks
for the reply.

Ok, I doubt the microscope has anything to do with it then.
You said you can plug the camera into other computers and it works.
Is this with the same firewire cable or a different one?
I ask that because the two most likely problems are either a bad firewire
cable or a bad IEEE port.
Try using your cable on a different computer and also try using a different
camera on your computer. This will/should tell you where the problem is.

I will try that, but the cable is brand new. The same camera works with USB
so unfortunately, i think you are right that it is the IEEE card which sucks
because I just bought it brand new. Uh well, thanks for the help.

Sorry I didn't have better news. Unfortunately IEEE cards do have a tendency
to go bad sometimes.
