MM2 hangs after few splits

My raw files are AVI from a Canon Digital IXUS i. They
import well into MM2. But when I start to clip pieces out
of them funny things happen: The first splits always
work, but after 2-3 clips the word "Split" shows grey in
the Clips menu (can not be selected) and the button under
the preview does not turn green when touched whith the
mousepointer. At this point, if I do not save the project
and close+restart the MM2, MM2 hangs after a little more
editing. I have read PapaJohns good suggestions and
turned the HW acceleration down (in steps to nil) and
checked the codecs, but of the mentoined ones I only
posess the ksproxy.ax - all the others have other names.

Elinar,

It's probably an issue with codecs... if I'm finding it right on the
internet, the camera is a still one that has a feature to take video as AVI
files, and you connect with a USB cable. Check your manual or use the GSpot
utiity to see what compression codec is used.

You might have to convert the files to something else before using in MM2.

There's a link to GSpot on my Setup > Software page.

I copy the AVI-files directly from the SD-card (512 MB)
to hard disk, and from there They can easily be dropped
into MM2. This works well and fast. The error showa only
after 2-3 splits.
Well GSpot says comp/decomp of video and audio is done in
quartz.dll where I have the latest version (from the
update DirectX 9.0b). But to me this does not say much? :-
) All I know is that I consequently must
save+close+start+open after every 2 splits - then it
works fine (%¤#"§!). Suppose I just have to wait and pray
for a new version or change to another editing tool - I
am just trying Uleads free trial which works fine and
splits the very same files with no problems - however I
just (as many here) happen to be severely in love with
MM2 and its easy intuitive user interface plus all the
facilities and possibilities it has. Are there not a
chance to make MS give MM2 some attention and straighten
out the bumps on the road??? Reading this newsgroup one
could hope for a MM2.1 soon :)
