Ok, so I'm trying to capture video and save to various popular web
formats (esp .mov) I've only found one way to do that with my available
resources (MM2 and QTPro on xp) and, since I'm a newbie at this, I'd
like to know if I'm using the best method:

I capture with MM2
Save as .avi
Open in QTpro
Export as .mov at whatever compression rate

It seems that since QTPro doesn't offer video capturing on XP there's
no other way but for me to first capture in MM2. Am I
'double-compressing' the captured video? Is this the typical way to do
this or am I missing something? Thanks experts.

These are just some alternative suggestions.
But first just one question, what are you capturing video from? A DV cam?

You typed you want to save to "various popular web formats", so
assuming you wish to place your clips online ...........
The above link is a free media sharing community where you can
upload film clips in various formats etc.

The above link is to the Turbine video encoder.
This can create video in the flash format which is easier to deliver
and upload to your web space. And surfers to your site do not
have to worry about which media player to use nor codec issues.
It's not free, but there is a trial download available.
