MM2 exits when previewing clips - weird!

One method I use to preview clips is to double click the clip icon - one
double click will start it, another will pause it, another will restart it
and so on.

If I'm playing one clip I can immediately jump to another clip preview by
double clicking that clip's icon. If I do this several times in a row MM2
exits! There's no knowing exactly when it will exit, that bit seems to be
quite random.

I've checked the Problem Solving -> Acceleration and Codecs page of
www.papajohn.org but I don't believe that the solution's there. I don't
encounter the shutting-down problems that other people seem to get when
adding transitions, etc.

My guess is that it's just a plain old bug in MM2!

Clip source file is DV-AVI captured by MM2 on a defragmented non-system NTFS
partition on 7,200rpm drive. System is P4 2.8GHz HT with 512MB RAM - no
performance issues.

TIA

Hi Jake,

I just tried it using WMV and AVI source files and cycled each 20 times
through starting and pausing in a row and didn't experience what you do. So
it might be computer-specific.

Hi there

I don't think I get the problem by starting/pausing the same clip several
times in a row. Not that I've noticed anyway.

Try previewing one clip then jumping to another by double clicking its icon
in the collection. Then jump to another clip while that one's playing - and
so on. That's when it happens to me.

I tried previewing several clips in a row in this manner. The first time
MM2 exited after the fifth clip, next time it exited after about the 10th.
It didn't exit at all when double clicking the same clip many times in
succession. It's caused by an access violation (0xc0000005) - error report
duly sent to MS via their built-in reporting tool. Who reads these??!!

I don't know much about how the software works, but my guess is that it's
some issue with the rapid change in file pointer position when switching
clips, which would explain why it doesn't exit when double clicking the same
clip (pausing/unpausing) as the file pointer wouldn't change at all in this
situation. Or maybe I'm talking complete claptrap, I don't know - I'm not a
programmer!

I tried rapidly changing from one clip to another, in the same collection or
mixed ones. Mostly clicking on video clips but I threw in a couple still
pix. Did 50 clips in a row and didn't experience the issue.

Maybe my 'rapid' mouse clicking isn't as rapid as yours. But it's as fast as
I can go.

Doesn't have to be that rapid, you can do it at quite a leisurely pace.

Looks like it could be specific to me and one or two others then. My
solution: don't do it!
