Have tried to install the recent update to WMM from two
different Microsoft sites.Once installed I try to run the
program and all I get is a small box with "unknown error"
in it. Luckily system restore brings back version 1 to a
usable state. Any ideas on what's up with version 2? Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a quickie of my system........

AMD Athlon XP 1700
376 MB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce2 MX
Windows XP SP1
27.4 GB disk free space

Hi Neo -

Are you running an English System and English MovieMaker? Are there
regional or language settings other than this, and if so, what are they?

Also, you might want to check the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker directory
after you install MovieMaker 2.0, and make sure you see the moviemk.exe file
with a version 2.0.xxxx.x, as well as a number of .dll files, five of which
should start with "wmm2..." and have the same 2.0 version number. If you
are seeing only version 1.x files, clearly the install did not happen at all
for some reason.

You may want to try the tips on www.papajohn.org (
http://www.eicsoftware.com/pictures/PapaJohn/Website-MM2/MM2.html) in
particular the section on "Problem Solving..." - "MM2 will not install or
run".

thanks -

Went to the site you suggested and followed the
instructions for renaming the TEMP file and presto......
it works. Thank you very much.
