MM2 crashes when "creating file please wait"

I am capturing from an Analog camcorder using PAL-I with an ATI Radeon card (64mb). All goes well until I try to save the captured clip. The "Creating file" briefly appears and them MM2 crashes. I don't think it is writing the file correctly, since the file size indicator (running whilst you are capturing) never gets over 3kb. I have latest ATI driver and plenty of space on disk. PC is 2.5mhz with 512mb RAM. Any ideas?
