Trying to help someone configue a pc for movie making. Does Movie maker 2
scale well with multiple cpus? Dual core is one thing, I'm thiking 2 dual
core dempsey/woodcrest or even 4 dual core opterons for eight way processing.

opteron boards, looking at those $1k quad boards
http://tinyurl.com/btr23
even with 4 opterons after the price drop at the end of this month, the
total wont exceed his budget.

This would not make sense if MM2 - which is what he wishes to use - wont
handle more than a certain number of threads. Can anyone shed some light on
this?

Am I correct in assuming that we are all agreed this is spam
for an online PC store snipped from above link?

Well I for one don't believe you.

I asked about the threading employed by MM2. If you dont understand, It is
just a way for a process to distribute processing accross multiple
cpus/cpucores.

if you need a link to the thread then here

His budget is $3k. Monarch is the only distributor I've found to actually
stock quad opteron boards. A lot of us on the maxpc forums are DIY computer
builders, and prefer to make our own pc's for the lower prices than buying a
complete system.

The purpose of this thread in this forum is just to answer is MM2 can
actually make use of 8 threads. If I wanted to pimp eight way processing, i'd
do so on enthusiast sites, not here :P I just decided to give a little
background as to why I'm interested in cpu scaling.

A three grand custom built hi-tech system, and he is going to use WMM?

I'd only recommend a thousand dollar board if he were to consider other
video options as well. Quad core processing - 2 dual core cpus on a board,
can be had for $1500. As I've yet to get information on cpu scaling, and as
we're waiting for the release of intel's core 2 duo which would also drop
AMD's prices, I CANNOT give an accurate price yet. Now do you HAVE any
information on if MM2 makes use of four or 8 threads or not?
