MM2 capture quality?

Digital Video for Dummies states that MM2 software compresses video to WM
format as it is captured, reducing to a much lower quality -5 MB per minute,
compared to about 200 MB/min with iMovie or Pinnacle Studio.
Is there a way around this apparent limitation?
 
Use DV-AVI (NTSC) setting when capturing video from camera would be the
highest quality setting.
