Captured a TV show using my new TV Wonder Pro. Want to
use MM to edit out the commercials, and then burn this
onto a DVD.

So I take the raw MPEG-2 file, and MM generates scenes
from it. OK, so far, so good.

Try to add multiple scenes into the timeline.. MM
crashes.

Add multiple scenes individually, and we're fine. Try to
save the timeline as a .wmv or export it as an .avi, and
MM crashes.

Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong? I'm running the
base version of MM that comes with SP1. There are no
updates for MM available on Windows Update (besides SP2,
which I'm not deploying yet..)

Hello there,

MM Ver 2 was not happy with MPeg files and almost always crashed out on people.
I can not say whether that is true of MM 2.1. If it is the solution is to
capture your files as AVI or convert your files to AVI using some other
software (See the GREAT LINKS section of my website and look for Knowledge Base
for some hints)

i had same problem
first figure out what codec it uses
then go to options, compatibilty tab, select the decoder you need

The version of MovieMaker I have is 1.1.2427.1.. which
appears to be WAY out of date, but I can't seem to find
updates for it..

Your website doesn't work, FYI. All I get is a message
saying "you do not have permission to access the
requested URL"

Movie Maker has problems using MPEG-2 files and the recommended path is to
convert them into DV-AVI or WMV files for use in your projects.

You've gotten pretty far, so try importing the file as a single clip, put it
on the timeline and save it as DV-AVI or WMV.... don't try splitting or
working with it beyond that.

..... or you'll need to use other software to convert it, something like
TMPGEnc.

Sorry about that, have been having a lot of trouble with people in the APNIC
area so have been blocking them. It looks as though you might be based in the
UK, if so then something has gone wrong...you should not be blocked.

Yes, there are none as far as I know. You need to upgrade to version 2.1 You do
that by applying Service Pack 2 which you can either download or get on a CD
cover disk of some of the popular magazines....I got three of them from one Mag
the other day (PC Format)
