missing.....

I try to redownload XP and it say I cant because ( INF file txtsetup.sif )
status 14
I really need help lol.


can someone help me!!!! My late husband was my computer helper he died back
in march and I know nothing about this but boy and I going to learn lolol
 
Are you trying to reinstall XP? If so when does this error appear? Is there
message saying that Windows is copying files? If so then the problem could
be either a dirty or damaged XP Install CD. Try cleaning it with a soft
cloth. If the problem persists then it is possible that your computer has
faulty hardware. Bad RAM or bad sectors on the hard drive can cause this.

By the way "download" generally means you are copying files to your computer
from the internet. What you are doing is called "reloading" or
"reinstalling" XP.

I had put Xp on the computer but when it installed it came up but
with no icons, no sart button, no tool box... So I am in the task manager
window going through windoes help lol.. it say that is is missing a INF file
( txtsetup.sif) status 14
and now it will not let me install XP ?

When you boot to the Desktop try holding down the Windows key and press the
"R" key. The Windows key is the one with the logo on it located between the
Ctrl and Alt keys. Holding the Windows Key down while pressing the "R" key
should bring up the Run box. Pop your windows XP CD into the CD-Rom drive.
In the Run box type the following and press Enter ( or click the OK button)

SFC /SCANNOW

*note that there is a space between the "C" and the "/"

The above will start the System File Checker which will look for corrupt or
missing system files and replace them. Unfortunately it won't tell you what
or even if it replaced anything. There is a blue progress bar. Let tit
compete. When he process is done remove the CD and boot the computer.

If that doesn't help then you could try a repair install from outside of
Windows. The means booting off the XP CD rather than booting to Windows. To

for How To Run A Repair Install
