Missing XP Home Edition files - Please help!!!!!!!!!

When installing the Service Pack I got a message saying files were missing. The process did not seem to
copy these from the installation CD when inserted. Can a Repair find and install missing files? If so, how to?
 
Put your Win XP CD in the default installation drive, when
it auto starts, cancel it.
now go to Start, Run and then type in sfc /scannow
The system file checker will run and replace or add
missing or corrupt files.
