Windows Vista missing windows installer and unable to use windows update

hi everyone. I'm missing my windows installer or its corrupt. I can't use windows update and I think that my registry is corrupted? I'm running windows vista on a dell xps system and have tried everything. Others are having the same problems. Please help with any suggestions. I have a 32bit system.
 
Do you have your original Vista media ? I would suggest doing a clean install.
 
Just had exactly same prblem on a laptop.

wouldnt let me do a repair from disk either

formatted and reinstalled instead was wasting hours trying to sort it

drop drive into another system get the items you need

pics, etc and format

just an idea for you too play with it ;)
