Hi
I stupidly removed all devices from
device manager - sound section

now after installing a new sound card - sb16 pnp
I don't have a vol control or mixer
I have searched for hours and no luck

how does one restore the default sound settings
for win 2000 pro?

I know in w98 you can do it from add/remove programs add windows
components - multimedia

but 2000 does not have that option

I've tried using different sound cards
and many other things

TIA

Peter

Click on Start / Settings / Control Panel / Sounds and
Multimedia and put a checkmark next to "Show volume
control on the taskbar"

sorry , I mean no volume control whatsoever
or mixer

if I click on volume control in access/entertainment
it errors with "no mixer device available , add mixer using add/remove
hardware

but I tried that and there is no mixer there to install

help
or I'm faced with a fdisk / reinstall
and in this case that's a ton of work

TIA

Hi Peter,
The sound volume control / mixer in Windows 2000 is
WINNT\SYSTEM32\SNDVOL32.EXE. Just by removing devices from Device Manager,
you wouldn't have removed the mixer / volume control.

Try running the application directly (double-click on sndvol32.exe, see if
the volume control comes up).

What happened when you went into Control Panel / Sounds and Multimedia and
put a checkmark next to "Show volume control on the taskbar"?
