Any advice? - I picked up some viruses in the past weeks, one of which erased the "Turn Computer Off" icon which normally appears when you press the bottom left green start button on the task bar (XP Home edition). I've cleared all the viruses but can I get this icon to return - can Chelsea be consistent?!! Anyway I've managed to drop a "Re-start" shortcut on my deskstop which restarts the computer but I just cannot turn my computer off without unplugging from the mains. Anyone come across this before? Many thanks. Mike

I've no idea how to restore the button in the start menu, but to access the
'Turn Off Computer' menu (which includes, restart, standby/hibernate, and
shut down) close all open windows and then press (at the same time) the ALT
button and the F4 button on your keyboard. You can corrupt files and damage
your computer by unplugging it from the mains. You could also do a repair
install. Search for "Repair Install" at support.microsoft.com for more
information.

Could you use Restore and select a date before the virus? Get the
machine completely back it's pre-virus attack ... if you had restore
enable.

Good luck

go to start\run
type gpedit.msc
go to user configuration\start menu and task bar
look near the bottom in the right pain for remove and disable turn off computer button--make sure it says not configured
if itis chosen to be configured, double click to open
put a dot in not configured and hit apply and OK
this should bring back the icon
