Hello everyone,
Windows XP, Powerpoint 2003, Dutch version
In the list of task panes there is an item called "help for templates (not
sure about the name in English) it is the item number 8 in the list", this
item always stays greyed out. How can I activate this task pane? Is it
something thas has to be installed?
I checked the help menu and the customer feedback option, in the categories
on your right you can tweak the on-line behaviour of Microsoft office
online. The item regarding help for templates is checked.
Can anyone help?
cheers
Luc

Luc,
It's tied to the Office online template downloads and teaches you how to
create and leverage features.
To display the Template Help task pane do the following:
1. Click Options on the Tools menu.
2. On the General tab, click Service Options.
3. Click Online Content in the Category pane, and then check the Show
Template Help automatically when available check box.

Hi Shyam,
Thanks for you reply, unfortunately it does not cure my problem.
The item stays greyed out. The item you mention is checked, I got to it via
the "Help" menu as I mentioned in my message. But also tried your procedure.
You can also access it via the taskpane help there is a link at the bottom
of the pane.
But maybe there is just nothing available for the Dutch version of PPT. It
is not the first time something works in the English version and not in
another language. In general the English user is better catered for by
Microsoft.
Cheers
Luc

In English, it's "Template Help" and I'm seeing the same thing here, Luc;
grayed out. Searching for "Template Help" in Help produces no further
enlightenment.

I've followed the same steps with the same results as you. Apparently neither
of us has found a temlate that offers additional help, English, Dutch or
otherwise.

At least we know we're not alone. <g>

Steve and Luc,

enter "Template" in the Search for Help box. You will be offered PowerPoint
templates for download (if you are connected to the internet while
searching), in the German version only three of those templates are
available. As soon as you have downloaded one of them, the option "Template
Help" is no longer greyed out. The Template Help Task Panes in the German
version show some general topics (e.g. "How to add date and time",
"Packaging for CD"), which might be helpful for beginners, but don't offer
advanced help.

Kind regards,
Ute

Thanks Ute, that sorts it out.

Two points for you (and two off for the Office Help Team for not providing
information about this)

Hi Steve,
We can always "phone home" can't we.
I did as Ute suggested and it worked a marvel. The least you can say is that
the whole thing is not straight forward and userfriendly. But I a sure when
John Langhans reads this he will have something to say about that!
Have a nice sunday and keep up the good work.
