Missing Task Bar

Last evening, after being on my puter for over four hours (waiting for the
AVG scan to complete), I suddenly lost my task bar (with the Start icon) and
then the background went black. I soon regained my screen with the icons,
but not the task bar. At that point, AVG finished its scan and I wanted to
shut down, but did not know how to access the "Start" without the icon. I
pushed the emergency button to restart and then everything was OK, and I
shut it down. Why I lost my task bar and my screen is sort of important,
but more importantly I think there's a way to get to the "Start" without the
task bar, if someone is kind enough to tell me.

One option would be to launch Task Manager by hitting the Ctrl + Alt + Delete
keys at the same time. Once you have Task Manger running, click on the File menu
and select New Task (Run) from the menu. Enter explorer.exe, click OK, and see
if your Taskbar is restored. If that doesn't help, you can restart or turn off
the computer by clicking on Shut Down and making the appropriate selection from
the menu that drops down.

Good luck

Thanks. Did not think of Task Manager.

The Windows key will do it, if your keyboard has one - to the left of the
space bar, with a wavy flag between Ctrl and Alt. Or Ctrl + Esc will bring
up the Start Menu.
