Missing SRV records

I had been experiencing all kinds of problems with an Exchange Front-End
Back-End installation and my trouble shooting has lead me to DNS. I can ping
the GC from the Front-End by either IP or FQDM, but not but GUID. From what
I am finding here it looks like the GUID should be in a SRV record, but I
can't find any SRV records at all.
Where should the SRV records be located, and what (how many) records should
be in there? This is a new domain, that is otherwise working fine.
 
by the way, the front-end server is located in a DMZ, which I am also sure
is a big part of the problem since I just read a posting from Ace Fekay that
domain communication can not traverse a NAT device, however that doesn't
explain the SRV records missing........
