The speaker icon has disappeared (lower right). I have no control of the
volume and it is set to zero.
I need volume control - machine is useless to me without it.
How do I get it back and prevent it from disappearing again?
Many thanks

Hi Dwarf ...
Many thanks for your response - I really do appreciate it.
I did look at the Tutorial that you offered and I find that there is no help
there although it sure looks like there would be a hint at least. All I
want is to get my work done and this machine just won't allow it (I paid
$1700 for two of these Vista machines). If you know how to bring back that
icon, please advise. I simply don't have time to research it further.

PS Do you know why my query is in red? what is that all about?

Hey Dwarf:
Much as I hate to do it, I did take the time to read deeper into the
Tutorial that you offered and I found the check box and it did bring the
icon back, including volume control.. Now I am wondering why it got
unchecked in the first place. All I need is a computer that will perform as
advertised; I simply can't spare the time required to keep MS products
running. Many thanks again for your "tip".

If you are using Microsoft Mail it is only in red for you, just showing that
you started the thread.

Right-click Taskbar -> Properties -> Notification Area Tab

There should be check boxes for Clock, Volume, Network and Power.
