Done this a million more times then I care to mention.
heres the situation.

win2k all around
3 cpus on a dsl router acting as a dhcp server.
192.168.123.100-163
1 win 2k server assigned ip 192.168.123.253

dsl router 192.168.123.254

all access the router all access internet
2 access the server.
1 cannot! thats my prob. it cant even ping the servier ip.

can ping all other cpu's

all are connected through the same router/switch I changed
cables-reloaded os, changed ports on router

it is almost as if the server recognizes this cpu's NIC
address and refuses to acknowledge it.

any ideas?

TIA

Hi Bill. Check to make sure that there is not a personal firewall or ipsec policies
configured on the server that may allow other computers to access it but not the
problem one. It might also help to run Netmon on the server to try and capture packet
sequence between the two computers to see what is happening. Also check that nics are
running at compatible speeds and try setting to a fixed common speed instead of auto.
I would also check the routing table to see if there is a misconfigured static route
to the server. There should not be one unless it was configured, but worth checking
out with the route print command. If nothing else works, I would try swapping nic
cards with one of the other computers that works fine to see what happens. ---
