I recently upgraded to Office XP from 2000 and noticed
that some of the content (text and images) created using
native powerpoint objects in office 2000 are not visible
when viewed using Office XP. Please let me know if this
is a known issue and if there is a patch that I can use to
rectify the problem. Would really hate to recreate the
content.

Thanks!

I bounce around between PowerPoint 97, 2000, 2002, and now 2003 and I don't
recall any such issue. When you tab through the slide, do you see "handles"
that might indicate that the objects are there but just no visible? Are you
having any other issues with the upgrade? Have you updated your video
driver recently? I recommend checking every three months or so for video
driver updates. Visit the video card manufacturer's website, or in the case
of a laptop, check with the laptop manufacturer.

If that proves not to be the problem, can you tell us more about the
objects? Does it happen with some but not all, and if so, what are the
differences?

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828041 was just
released, and I suspect it will resolve your problem.

If you're using WindowsXP, I'd suggest creating a restore point before
installing this hotfix, just in case you need to remove it later.
Backing up to the restore point will possibly be easier than
uninstalling and reinstalling Office, which is the only way to remove
this patch.

I installed the office patch/hotfix and it did not resolve
the issue either. My computer is up-to-date with current
patches and fixes. I have also installed latest drivers
for video, nic and a few other peripherals that I thought
might help. But no dice...

The slides in questions contain:
1. oval shapes with text
2. rectangular boxes with text
3. some database shapes (cylinders) that were possibly
imported from visio

The only thing that is visible is the slide layout that
indicates "click here to add text".

I did try to revert back to office XP (on OS XP) and a
friend tried to revert back to office 2000 (on OS 2000)
but that did not work either. I'm contemplating that
having received it as an attachment in Outlook 2003 and
then sending it back using outlook 2003 may have also
effected the file.

Any thoughts?

Current setup:
OS: XP
Office: 2003

It sure sounds like the file might have suffered from over synthesis. I'd
guess that the file is bad and doesn't have to do with the version of
PowerPoint.

Hi,

In PowerPoint 2000, where the content is still visible, please do the
following.

1) Open an affected presentation.
2) Delete all slides except one slide which exhibits the problem (when
viewed in 2003)
3) Save As... presentation to new filename
4) Reply to this message and attach the single slide presentation (created
in step 3) so that I can have our testing department look at it.

Thanks,

John Langhans
