A few days ago, the site name for all IE windows on my XP
Pro system changed to one character. (e.g. "The New York
Times" now displays as "T". I can't think what might
have changed to cause this. Can you help me get the
site name restored?

This article refers to IE 5 and Nt4 . Check it out just in case it helps.

A Single Letter May Be Displayed in the Title Bar
When you run Windows Explorer or start Internet Explorer, the text in the
title bar may be displayed as a single letter (for example, an "M" or an
"E").

The problem turned out to have been caused by the
installation of Iconlock from PC Mag Utilities. Removing
that program caused full site and path/file info to return
to IE and Explorer. Thanks to H Leboeuf who pointed me
to a Microsoft article which suggested that an added
propgram might have caused the problem.
