Running XP Home SP2. When I click on Start|Settings, the only options
now are Control Panel and Printers. The option relating to Startup is
missing. How do I get it back?

I'm not familiar with this option, I know of a taskbar and start menu
option, but nothing related to startup, what did it do?

There isn't any option for Startup there. The entry for the Startup
folder is under Start>Programs>Startup.

Yes there was. Among other things, it enabled customizing the Start
Menu.

Click on Control Panel and then Taskbar&Start Menu Settings

OR

Right click the start button and select Properties.

Go to the Advanced Settings page and move the radio dot from "display as
link" to "display as menu." If using Classic start menu, select "expand"
for Control Panel.

Right now you're set at "display as link" (or the classic start menu
equivalent) which means that you would not see the control panel items as
individual selections. Change the setting to get these things back into the
start menu.

Maybe, you are talking about "Taskbar and Start Menu" settings option in
Start Menu while using Classic Start Menu.

1. Click Start - Run - type REGDIT and press Enter.
2. Here you have to expand to a particular location, which is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE
MICROSOFT
WINDOWS
CURRENTVERSION
POLICIES
EXPLORER

3. On the right-side pane, check for a value called "NoSetTaskbar". If it is
there, select the entry, right-click and delete.
4. Close the REGEDIT (Resitry Editor).
5. Click Start - Turn Off - Restart for changes to take effect.

Hope this what you were looking for, let us know!

There is no Taskbar&Start Menu Settings in my Control Panel. Any

Did you try a right click> Properties on the start button? That should get
you access to the same thing.

Also you have other suggestions in this thread that look like they're worth
a try to.

NOTE: If on a domain, it's possible the administrator has limited access to
this control panel applet.

That did it! Thanks so much!
