Upon having a bad reboot I was forced to go to Safe Mode
- Directory Service Restoration. In this safe mode I had
performed a Windows update. After rebstart into Normal
mode, noticed that Event Log had vanished out of the
Serices listing under Admin Tools.
Displacement of the *.evt files won't help because there
is no Event Log service to start in the first place.

Hi Jared
One thing that you could try would be to use regedit to export the
following registry key from a working machine
HKEY local machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\eventlog

Also make sure that the eventlog.dll is located in the system32 folder.

you may have to register this DLL from a command line
regsvr32 eventlog.dll

reboot and see if the service is back.
If this does not work the onlything I can think of is to restore from
backup.

Hope that helps.
