missing pin registration number

I need to reformat my hard drive but I cannot find the
case with my pin registration number on it. Is there a way
I can get it from the existing installation or from
microsoft?

Look in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion
There you should find several keys giving product info; ProductID,
ProductKey, ProductName, etc.
