Hello. This has got me stumped.
I've got a box running 2000 server that has had it's
memory bumped up to 4 gigs. POST shows the 4gigs
installed, other diagnostic tools see the 4gigs but
Windows only sees 3.5gigs. I contacted the manufactuer and
they sugested using the /PAE switch in the boot loader, my
research has shown that MS does not recomend using this
switch in a production environment on a 2000 server, in
fact im not even sure the switch is available on a 2000
server. Has anyone run into something like this or have
any idea what might be causing it?

Thanks

Jeff
I've been using the /PAE & /3gb switched on my cluster with 2k Advanced Server install without issue for almost a year now. Look up the following articles

Thanks. Thing is, this box is running just plain old server
(I didnt build it, wouldve use AS if it were up to me). and
from one of the Q articles I saw, PAE was not supported on
server. I assume the PAE switch is there, just not
"supported". And I'm not real clear on what the /3gb switch
does on plain old server as well. It's supported on AS and
DC but not on server. Looks like i might be doiing a little
experimenting this weekend. Or writing up an RFP for a
server 2003 purchase.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

Windows 2000 Server will not use either the /PAE or the /3GB switches, you need Advanced Server or higher.

What make computer is it? I ask because Compaqs will reserve some RAM for their PCI bus which causes the OS to show
less than the total amount. The below points to one of the articles from Compaq's web site that talks about this.
