My network status light is now missing in my system tray. I checked my
manual DSL connection icon (properties) in the network connection of the
control panel and the "show icon in notification area when connected" is
checked. I suspect a virus; however, a full scan shows none. Actually the
whole taskbar is acting funny by occasionally flashing. What is happening????

Could it be that a program you've installed or upgraded has added something
new to the tray causing the network icon to be moved into the hidden area?
See if there is an arrow on the left side of the the tray and if there is you
can click on it to display the entire tray.

Thanks for the suggestion; however, I have no arrow on the left side. Now it
has become erratic, sometimes it appears and sometimes it doesn't. If I
fiddle around with the taskbar/systems tray, the whole taskbar will sometimes
turn white followed by a white outlined box around the systems tray. This is
weird. Any idea what's happening here?

Try right clicking on the taskbar and selecting Properties. Click on
Customize and then click on "Restore Defaults". Click on OK and then Apply.

If you are still missing some of the icons uncheck the "Hide inactive icons"
and click on Apply to see if they come back.
