Running a copy of XP Home and trying to set-up a client for Internet
Conection.

Only two computers in network. The host sees the internet OK via a NIC
to a cable modem using an auto IP seek configuration. A second NIC is
manually configured with a 192.168.0.1 address. The client NIC is
configured manually with 192.168.0.4 address and an indicated
192.168.0.1 gateway. They both see each other on the LAN, but when I
try to run the Netwok Setup Wizard on the client nothing happens.
Zero, No Window, No error message. Nuthin'. It does not matter where I
try and run the wizard from - its like it's not there.

Where does the file reside? (Where is it supposed to reside?) What's
it called?

I will diddle in the Register if necessary.

Suggestions.......

TIA

c:\windows\system32\netsetup.exe
and on install CD
and on floopy created from running the wixard.

OK, It's there, but if executed from the directory nothing still
happens. Well, actually something does happen but it's a 2 GHz machine
so I can't see what is going on. The end state is nothing. No windows
to close. No error or failure messages.

I've assigned IP addresses and insured the computers are all in the
same workgroup. On the client, I've set the gateway to 192.168.0.1.

On the host I've assigned 192.168.0.1 to the NIC that feeds the LAN.
For the NIC that feeds the cable modem to the internet, I've allowed
DHCP to do the job. I believe I need DHCP to connect to the internet
thru the cable modem.

One item that is unclear to me is the MS guidance that 192.168.0.1
must be or is automatically assigned to the Internet Connection. If
you have two NICs in a computer, which one are they talking about? I
have a similar, separate two computer host and client network (1 NIC
client, 2 NICs host) and the configuration I am trying to impliment
here works fine. The one difference (and it may be critical) is that
these two computers are running WinXP Pro while my problem is on the
pair running WinXP Home.

I do note that the Network Connections window does not refelect an
"Enabled, Shaired" status on the host NIC to the cable modem, only an
"Enabled". When I try an enable shairing, the Wizard comes back with a
failure message. Why can't I get it into a shaired mode?

Is the failure of the Shaired mode on the host effecting the ability
of the client to Internet connect through the host? The strange thing
is that a file shairing LAN is operational between the two computers.
I would guess yes, except for the inability to run a Wizard on the
client, I would think the Wizard would run in any case and provide a
failure error message at the end.

Further suggestions welcomed......
