I hope the answer to this isn't too obvious!

I have a Win2k notebook networked with a Win98SE desktop.
Currently using a router that also connects a DSL modem,
but the problem predates that connection. The notebook
can connect to the desktop, read files etc. Both machines
can access DSL modem.

The desktop cannot share the printer direct connected to
the notebook, or read notebook's files. When I look at
Network neighborhood (on the WIN98 box), Entire Network
appears, but when I click on EN, it says that network is
not accessible.

This post in this group because it has been suggested to
me that the WIN2K box is not "announcing" it's presence.

Sharing on the printer seems correctly set.

Any help, including pointing to the relevant KB articles,
greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have a user and password set up on the W2K machine that match the login
details for the W98 one?

John,
Thanks for your response.
No login is required on WIN98 machine. I have a "guest"
account on W2K machine, with a null pw.
Since the error message is that "the network is not
accessible", I suspect that the problem is less subtle
than an authentication issue.

Ipx/spx protocol is not needed for this.
Workgroup should be the same, file and printersharing should be installed
and netbios over TCP/IP should be enabled.
The useraccount that is being used on the W98 should exist on the W2K.
