Missing minimized programs on taskbar

Hi,

I'm using a Window XP Home Edition. My taskbar does not show the programmes
that I am running when I minimised them. I am refering to those rectangular
boxes that lines up in a row on the taskbar.

When I minimised the programmes or an IE browser, it will disappear at a
point between the start button and the quick launch task panel.

Can anyone help me with this problem? I hope I can avoid reformatting my PC.
