missing mapped drives

I have a problem with mapped drives disappearing in "My Computer". 4 drives
are mapped by a login script in active directory. Usually all show up after
a reboot (but not always)after a day or two (with no reboots) the drives no
longer show up in My Computer. Usually 1 or 2 or 3 out of 4 mapped drives
will still be there, but occasionally all of them are gone. If you click
tools and disconnect network drives all the drives show up there. If you
click start\run and type in \\server\share it connects immediately.

Also, I have a home drive H: that maps to \\server\share\%username%, on
certain people this drive occasionally maps to \\server\share?!?!

Thanx for your help!

Jerry,

I would suggest that you take a look at the event logs on the client
computers. I might also run 'netdiag /v' on the clients. You can install
that separately ( it is normally a part of the Support Tools but you can
download that individually as well ).

What OS is the client - WINXP Pro? I know of the common problem with -NOT-
getting the mapped network drives upon logon ( where you have to log off and
then back on to get them ). This is the 'Fast Logon Optimization' that
WINXP Pro does. You would use a GPO to 'fix' that problem. I might try
this.

Naturally, make sure that your environment is virus free ( not sure of any
virus that would have these effects ).

Also, what happens if you create a shortcut on the desktop? Even though the
mapped network drives 'disappear' can you access them from the shortcut?

HTH,

Cary
