Missing "Mailto"

Always awkward questions I am afraid - last two had no answers so must be
difficult!

In my constant twiddling (no rebukes please) I have managed to stop email
links in web pages opening up a mail client and starting a new email.
Browser is Firefox2.. and mail is Thunderbird. Checked prefs on those - all
ok. Registry shows mailto entry as pointing to Thunderbird but there seems
to be fields missing. Vaguely recollect removing a load of file types
(unused) and just maybe this is my problem.
Windows 2k latest updates. IE 6 installed but not used. Outlook completely
un-installed.

Many thanks Dave but no way do i wish to do a re-install in any mode - too
many registry hacks already and don't want a risk of a whole Easter's work!

Any other suggestions.

Would appear to be in FILE TYPES that the linkto the mail program (URL) has
been deleted. ANy clues as can not find on another win2k machine I have as
a server.

For help of others - now sorted

Involved recreating a "URL:MailTo Protocol" file type
then pointing to the mail client in options. Took several attempts as
creating a "N/A" file type would only create file types from a list and the
MailTo wasn't there! Modified one of the other URL ones, found it's entries
in registry,
created a duplicate, caled it MailTo and then edited!

Great fun - but got there!
