I've read the Articles 329050 and 254631, and while i checked all of the
settings, rechecked them with my other servers and verified that everything
was fine, I am still unable to view the Local Area Connection. I had this
problem before and uninstalled the NIC which is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit
557x , rebooted, reinstalled the drivers and I was good to go. This time
around, that doesnt seem to be the case. I've also reenabled the Second Nic
which is an onboard Broadcom 440 10/100 thinking that I would atleast get
the Icon to show up with that one, but no luck. I'm able to surf the Net
and view th IP Settings which show it as Local Area Connection 2 and 3.
I've uninstalled SP4 and reinstalled SP3 thinking that it would work, but
yet again. Failure.

At the moment i'm doing a backup of my data which is extremely sensitive
Client data and will do a complete install of Win2k Server as soon as its
done. I had been afraid to do a new install on the drive for the fact that
the data has been Spanned through 3 Drives using an Adaptec 133Tx2
Controller and did not want to risk any of the data becoming corrupted.

If anyone figures out what it is that I have missed throw me a bone, until
then I'll have to go the rudimentary way.

Thanks, hope to hear some good news soon!

I am having the same problem, using Win2K Server SP4 with all patches
applied.

I right-click on "My Network Places" and select "Properties" to bring
up the "Network and Dial-up Connections" window. The "Make New
Connection" icon appears, and no others. I can successfully add a new
dial-up connection but no icon appears. I know the attempt was
successful because it shows up on the "Connections" tab of my
"internet options" in Internet Explorer 6.

I have run through the knowledge base articles, without success. [see
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329050 for details.]

I am using a 3Com 10/100 PCCard-Fast Ethernet (FE574B-3Com) on a
Toshiba laptop.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

If you have followed Articles 329050 and 254631 and that doesn't resolve
the problem (it usually does), Try this:

1. Open up REGEDT32 and navigate to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network

2. Save out the Network key.

3. Delete the Config value which is inside the Network key
(Do not delete the Network key)

The Config value will be reconstructed on startup.

4. Reboot.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows . Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

With that said, let me assist you.
