Missing links on web pages

I recently installed a new hard drive. Internet Explorer 6
now will not display drop-down boxes on web sites, will
not allow text in search boxes, will not display log-in
buttons on web sites that were there before the hard drive
upgrade. I am running Windows XP with all updates.

If you reinstalled WinXP on the new drive, WinXP does not include Java
support.

Understand that because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java
support after 30 SEP 04.
