Missing Keystrokes and Irratic Touchpad Behaviour

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Sony GRX and having loads
of trouble with my computer dropping repeated keystrokes,
mostly just after moving the pointer with the touchpad,
but also occasionally when the touchpad moves all by
itself. I've heard that people have encountered this
after installing XP Pro, others say it's just a Sony
problem but can't find a solution.

Can you help? Do you have a similar problem?
 
That doesn't work. My understanding is that it is a bug in the KBC of the
BIOS. But Sony (Europe) won't acknowledge that the fault exists and thus
wont fix the bug. However, I've been in contact with someone in the Canada
who has a US model for which there was a BIOS update from sony and he says
it fixed it for him.
