missing kernel

I have been trying to install a new scanner and fax, I
keep getting a message saying "reinstall NTVDM kernel-
system 32 directory GDI.exe"

Can someone help me I don't know how to fix this

A missing kernal is a serious problem and refers to

system files on your computer. You should try to fix this
by inserting your OS cd and doing a repair of the system
files.
