Missing Internet Options Tools

C

Clementine

After uninstalling some software, the security and
advanced tabs in the Internet Options were missing.

Now I can't surf or get access to websites which requires
secured connection.

Can someone help? I did a check and found that I have 2
missing files - iecont.dll and iecontlc.dll.

Thanks

There could be more than one "AdvancedTab" value.
Try these keys first and then search for AdvancedTab (no space)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel

Remove "AdvancedTab" if present.
Remove "SecurityTab" if present.

Now, investigate the parasite that put these restriction these there

I don't think there is a connection with your other problem.
Others seem to have found these two files "missing" also.
What tells you they are "missing"?

Hi....another user here with additional questions regarding this. I'm on
Windows 5.1 SP1 and I do not have the same files that Clementine mentions on
the original post. Should I have these files also??? I "do" have Security
and Advanced on my options. Should I even worry about this? I took Net
Frame off of my computer a few days back. Should I have left it there?

Thanks, JGlacier

Hi Alan!

Thanks!!!! It worked!!!! After weeks of searching for
solutions and many fruitless attempts, I am really
grateful for your help!!!!

My IE is functioning as normal now. I suspect the reason
those 2 tabs went missing was due to some spyware which I
had "killed".

Thanks again!!!

I can't click on Internet Tools directly and had to go to
the control panel plus I noticed that the 2 options were
not available and was unable to get access to any secured
websites.

Alan,

I have Windows XP 5.1 Media Center addition. I did regedit and followed
your instructions. I can follow all the way to Microsoft on both instances
but there is NO Internet Explorer folder at the next step? Should I be
alarmed of this? Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks, Jessica

Hi Jessica,

No, you shouldn't be alarmed. While I have both, they are empty and I
could easily delete them. (I probably created them while testing)

Do you have those tabs missing?

Hi Jessica,

I should have read this post before answering your other query as I
see you have both tabs.

No, don't worry. The two Registry keys do not have to be there if you
have no restrictions.
