missing images

I d/l some Microsoft hot fix and i notice my yahoo IM image if someone
sends me a smilies it doesn't show up, i restored my pc prior to the hot
fix and checked the settings in yahoo IM and i can't figure out how to
turn the images back on. all i see is the missing image icon.

PS: just notice it's happening to my mcafee also, all the icons are missing.
