Hi
looking at a problem on a friends system, he said can you get the IE6 icon
back? system is XP Pro, tried to find iexplore.exe and it does not exist on
the PC, If you open an HTML file IE opens, once open one can browse the web
OK, IE6 is missing from the desktop, the start menu, everywhere. if you got
to start then run then type iexplore, explorer works!! Looks like it has had
lots of add-ons to the toolbar and search items. How can iexplore run if I
cannot find it with a search for files of that name??

Thanks if you can help before I go crazy

Colin

1. Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip; [new
URL] ) is the preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both
identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ for expert analysis, not here.**

2. Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

3. Repairing IE may be called for if none of the above fix the problem
(which is doubtful): http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378.
