Hi All,

My wife is using windows xp home xr3. For some reason under programs under
start menu she is missing standard icons such as startup accessories and the
like. When I go to all users under documents and settings the icons show
up. Can I fix this? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks as
allways.

Hi Rich,

thanks for the information. I have another question. Since all the icons
are listed under all users can I copy and paste them into her profile
folder? Thanks,

I solved the problem of the missing icons. I went to control panel task bar
and start menu. Under customize advanced the use personalized menu was
checked. I un-checked it and now the icons are back. Go figure.

If unchecking Use Personalized Menus resolved your issue, then perhaps
your problem presentation was not obvious.

Did you mean that when you clicked Start, Programs the offering does
not include all the options you think it should and if you click the
downward pointing arrow at the bottom of the presented list the list
expands to reveal your missing programs? Sometime panic ensues before
the downward pointing arrow is realized...

That is what Use Personalized Menus does. If enabled, it lists only
the most recently used programs (I think 10) and hides the rest so the
things you use most often show up in the smaller list from the top
down. This is Windows' way of keeping your Start menu uncluttered.
Things you don't use very often don't show up.

If it got that way and you have no recollection of changing the
settings (this happens) then it would be prudent to do some malware
scans to be sure something isn't changing your settings just to annoy
you.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.
