I have a nuisance problems with XP. When I start Windows,
many icons are missing from the notification area (system
tray). The number of icons and which ones varies.
Sometimes I can only have two or three icons in the tray.
If I log out and log back in, they all show up. I had
heard from someone that this is related to a file in the
windows directory or something that just needs to be
deleted. But he didn't remember the name of the file. Has
anyone heard of this problem and can you help me. It's
driving me nuts!

Thanks a lot,
Steve Serres

I think your problem has to do with XP's penchance to hide inactive
notification icons. Right click on your task bar. Select properties and
look in the Notification Area panel. See if the Hide Inactive Icons
checkbox is ticked. If it is, just uncheck it and you should see all your
notification icons at all time.

No, this isn't it. They just aren't there. The processes
are running when I look in task manager, you just can't
see the icons.

Thanks,
Steve
