Hi Everyone,
I have had an extremely important icon disappear from my desktop. Is
there any where to retreive the lost information? The icon itself is, of
course, unimportant. Does anyone know how this could happen?
Thank you.

You didn't specify the Icon Name or program name to whom it concern. Check if
the icon is only hidden or has been moved to the Recycle Bin. If it is not
then Search the Files and Folders with the same name. Hopefully, you will be
able to search for the folder where the icon actually was from. Then maybe it
is possible that the information will find you are looking for.

It's very difficult to answer your question, since you've told us almost
nothing. Did the icon represent a shortcut or an actual file? What kind of
file? If it was a shortcut, what kind of file did it point to and where was
it? Did you look for it where the shortcut pointed? Have you done a search
for the file?

I am very new to computers, so I apologize for not realizing you needed so
much information about the missing icon. All I understand about it is that
when I clicked on it, it would take me to an Excel page I made up. So, I
guess it could not be called a file or program. It is just a page that breaks
down into each month for keeping track of financial information. I titled it
only "Excel". Does this help at all?
Again, I apologize for my ignorance and I really appreciate your help.
Thank you,
Kira

I have never heard of a "hidden icon". Would you mind explaining it to me?
Why would it be hidden, how would it get hidden, how would I find something
that is hidden, etc?
Thanks so much for your help! --Kira

And also look in "My Documents", since that's where Excel probably stored
the file when you created it. If it's there, right click on it and select
Send to > Desktop(create shortcut). Hopefully you just accidentally deleted
the shortcut and not the actual file.

Start Excel and look on it's file menu for recent files used.

I want to thank David, Rusty and everyone else who responded to my problem. I
have learned a lot from all of you. I have also found my Missing Icon in the
Recycle Bin. You people are great. I wish I had one of you in my pocket
because I run into a lot of problems.
Thanks again,
Kira
