I have Win XP Pro, and IE7. I'm not sure what I did, but my History now comes
up blank. When I click on the Star Icon to view History and Favorites,
"History" shows up with an arrow on the right, but, there is nothing under
it. It doesn't even show the options it used to re Sites visited today, By
Site, etc...

I tried deleting the History folder under Local Settings, but that did not
help, and I changed the number of days of history as well as deleted all the
files in the temp folder, but that has not helped.

Any help will be much appreciated.

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that
you..,

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

3. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install,
and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Pa Bear:

I followed your instructions (twice). Each time when I was using IE6,
History was being recorded. Subsequently installing IE7 resulted in
cessation of the record. The first time, I did not uninstal ZoneAlarm, and
the 2nd time I did, leaving only the Windows Firewall.

I followed your instructions re addons, to the extent of disabling all of
them in "Manage Add-ons"---I haven't seen any instructions anywhere of how to
remove them completely.

In any case, I feel frustrated, because things were working, and now they're
not!

Any further suggestions?

TIA

Bearspa.

=> Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;

2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer
(No add-ons).

I did a couple of additional things.

I had read another post about running REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW.DLL , so I did. I
got an error message:

DllInstall in shdocvw.dll failed. Return code was: 0x80004005

I then removed IE7, and reran REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW.DLL, and it worked in IE6!

IE6 seems to be working fine, except that on one specific bulletin board,
when I click on a message, it used to open the message, but now it won't. I
have to open it in a new window, and then I can click on all the postings in
the thread and read them, and have to go through this process for each
thread. In the past, just clicking on the posting would open it in a pane in
the same window.

I don't know if any of this is relevant---just giving you all the
information I have.

Thanks for all your help.

Do you have View Hidden Files enabled? If not try enabling it
to see if that causes any of the History folder's implementation
to be exposed in that Explorer bar.

When I click on the Star Icon to view History and Favorites,
"History" shows up with an arrow on the right, but, there is nothing under

Can you use the dropdown arrow beside the History label
to change its View? Try changing it to By Order Visited Today.

Check to see if the History and History.IE5 folders both have
a desktop.ini hidden file in them?

I tried deleting the History folder under Local Settings, but that did not
help,

Tell us about your AV (or other security apps).
McAfee was once notorious for causing this symptom in IE6.
Perhaps there has been a regression? ; )

Robert, thanks for the suggestion, but I do have View folder enabled in
Windows Explorer. So that isn't the cause of the problem in IE.
