missing hard drive

I operate a dual-boot system (Windows 2000 & XP). The
machine has three hard drives, a CD reader, a DVD player
and a DVD writer. When I boot up in Windows 2000,
everything is fine but when I switch to Windows XP, on of
the hard drives is missing. I can see it in the device
manager and there do not to be any conflicts but Windows
XP doesn't see it. The Hardware Wizard in XP recognizes
the drive but does not seem able to make it active on the
desktop.

The three hard drives are identical. However, the
missing one is attached to an Ultra 133 card. The DVD
writer is on the same card & works fine. The hard drive
is on IDE 1 and the DVD writer is on IDE 2.

It's a puzzle. Why does it work in one configuration and
not the other? Why is it invisible to Windows XP?
