I need some help please

I have two 60GB hard drives on my PC, running Windows 2000
Professional; both worked fine. After a viral infection, I
decided to reinstall Windows 2000 on "C" HD. In the
process of doing this (I used the CD with Windows 2000 on
it), I decided to partition my C drive (NTFS, which is
what I used previously), which appeared to work fine. I
then booted into Windows, and discovered, to my horror,
that my "D" HD (i.e second hard drive) has "disappeared".
I then went back to the installation of Windows 2000, and
removed the partitioning (in other words, I went back to
my original setup that was in place before I tried to
reinstall Windows 2000). Still no second hard drive when I
try to use Windows Explorer. My BIOS recognizes it, and
even when I view the Device Manager of "My Computer", it
appears there. The problem is that the "device usage" area
of the properties of this hard drive is "greyed out" - I
can't enable is disable it.

All help will be most appreciated, since every piece of
data important to me is on that now inaccessible hard drive
